Collaboration Across A Worldwide Workforce

Digital Firefly MarketingThe development team is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, while the design team is based in Sacramento, CA. The SEO team is in Princeton, NJ. Most of the members of Digital Firefly have never met face to face, but still wanted an easy way to collaborate closely, and recognize one another for the great work that went on every day.

“Even though we all work towards the same goal, there are not very many opportunities to acknowledge each other. Bonusly has given us that opportunity.”

The team took to the concept immediately, handing out bonuses to one another for reasons ranging from congratulations on a big win to beard compliments. Digital Firefly’s leader John told us they’re seeing a “good mix of silly and serious ones.”

Communication is Crucial

Integrating communication and project management tools like Jira and Basecamp into Slack gave the Digital Firefly team the central collaborative environment they needed to work together cohesively. In addition to that crucial functionality, they gained a water cooler to gather around.

Their #watercooler Slack channel serves as a lighthearted forum for everyone to post interesting news, make jokes, comment on activity, and get to know each other better. It was a natural home for their Bonusly feed.

“Needless to say, we’ve had a lot of fun solidifying our company’s employee engagement.”

As distributed teams become more prevalent, solving the puzzle of cohesive collaboration is an increasingly important thing to get right. Organizations that focus on this will be at an advantage in years to come.
